Will FinovateSpring 2019 be a Launchpad for More Fintech Unicorns?

If you’re looking for unicorns, a good place to find one may be upcoming tech conference FinovateSpring 2019, which is billed to take place at the Hilton San Francisco in Union Square. For four days – Tuesday, May 7 to Friday, May 10 – over 60 fintech startups and scaleups will demonstrate how they are recreating the financial services universe through the use of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. One of them could turn out to be a unicorn, a term used to describe companies with at least a billion-dollar valuation.

It won’t be the first time that a unicorn has been first sighted at a Finovate confab; in the past, clever companies have used the Finovate conference series to win backers and woo investors. For example, earlier this month, business payments innovator Bill.com, a Finovate alumnus, floated past the magic mark after raising $88 million from venture funds, so don’t miss your chance join other unicorn spotters in San Francisco for FinovateSpring 2019. Even if you don’t see a unicorn, you’ll find out how fintech is changing the very fabric of banking, payment and financial services.

Bill.com first appeared at FinovateSpring 2012, demonstrating its payments technology. The company now handles over $60 billion in annual payment volume for the three million or more members using its network. Finovate alumni also include Lending Club, the peer-to-peer lender; Xero, the New Zealand-based accounting software provider; Klarna, the Swedish bank; Wonga, the British payday lender; and a host of other unicorns. The 60 or so companies slated to make product presentations at FinovateSpring 2019 include Align Money, BlytzPay and Fortress Identity. Align Money allows business owners and their employees to issue co-branded business credit cards and manage money with its mobile and web applications; BlytzPay provides a text-to-pay solution for mobile point of sale delivered directly to a customer’s phone; and Fortress Identity is an intelligent biometrics platform that allows the replacement of passwords through the use of an individual’s unique biometrics for secure identity authentication.

FinovateSpring 2019 opens with pre-conference presentations on Tuesday, May 7. From then until Friday, May 10, the over 1,100 or so likely to attend will hear from 120+ expert speakers on real-world solutions and insights from fintech’s cutting edge. Demos from presenting companies covering banking, payments, lending, artificial intelligence (AI) and customer relationship technologies will shine the spotlight on the best of the Bay Area’s fintech market.
