Travelport (TVPT) Ties the Knot Tighter with Expedia (EXPE)

On Monday, August 1, 2016, Travelport (NYSE: TVPT) announced an expanded partnership with Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXPE) under which Expedia will extend its use of Travelport’s Travel Commerce Platform in Europe. Two years ago, Travelport joined forces with Expedia in a joint venture with Majid Al Futtaim Finance, a leader in credit card and prepaid services in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to launch the UAE’s largest online travel rewards scheme, Najm Voyager Rewards.

Announcing the deal, Steve Jarvis, Vice President, Strategy & Business Development at Expedia, Inc., said:

“Expedia’s commitment is to be the very best place to shop for travel and Travelport’s Travel Commerce Platform offers innovative technology and particularly extensive hotel and car content.”

Under the agreement, Expedia and its brands, which include Orbitz, HomeAway, Travelocity and Egencia, will maintain their employment of Travelport’s industry-leading Universal Application Programming Interface (Universal API). This will power new services and gives customers a greater level of information, choice and flexibility when it comes to booking online travel. Customers of Expedia will continue to have access to unrivalled hotel and car content. The agreement will also allow Expedia the use of Travelport’s Rapid Reprice and ePricing technology, which improve the speed and efficiency of the overall air shopping experience for consumers.

Scott Hyden, Travelport’s Group Vice President, Enterprise Customer Group, welcomed the deal, saying:

“We’re delighted to be expanding our European agreement with Expedia and look forward to continuing to grow our long standing global relationship in the months and years ahead as we work closely with them to support their highly customer-focused approach and overall growth ambitions.”
