The JBoy Show Talks with Top Football Recruiting Prospects

  • Two four-star recruits join JBoy to discuss timelines, what they bring to colleges that sign them
  • Quarterback MJ Morris, class of ’22, can throw any direction on the run, has time to make final decision
  • Safety Ahmari Harvey, class of ’21, is versatile defensive player being recruited hard by two schools

MJ Morris and Ahmari Harvey joined The JBoy Show, considered the “realest SEC podcast around,” and show host, Jake Crain, during a recent episode to discuss the colleges currently recruiting them and the decisions that lay ahead.

From Carrolton, GA, and listed as a dual-threat quarterback, MJ Morris is a high-profile recruit from the class of 2022 who has received offers from multiple colleges. As an incoming junior, he is working hard on the mental side of the game and is focusing on what separates him from other quarterbacks his age: the ability to throw both ways on the run. Morris contributes this to workouts with his dad and always working on the throw.

As for a timeline for his recruitment, Morris is taking it slow. During the JBoy Show, Morris noted that COVID has kept him from being able to visit many of the schools. He did grow up rooting for Auburn, his mother’s alma mater, and has visited the campus more than any others, so he feels more at home at Auburn for now, he said.

“Regardless of where you go, what is that team, that program, that community and fanbase going to get from MJ Morris?” asked Crain during the show.

“They are going to get a leader first,” Morris replied. “They are going to get a hardworking and dedicated quarterback. I’m going to be the first person on and the last person to leave. I’m going to help everybody I can. I’m just going to be there for everybody.”

Next up, Crain interviewed Ahmari Harvey, class of 2021 and a four-star safety from Florida State University School in Tallahassee, Florida.

Auburn and Texas A&M have been recruiting Harvey the hardest. As a versatile player, he is confident that he can play any defensive position and would be comfortable on either team. During the show, he told JBoy that he wasn’t in a hurry to make his decision and said he would do so when it “feels right.” On Aug. 20, 2020, he made the announcement that he had committed to Auburn (http://nnw.fm/mqguZ).

Harvey’s confidence and ability to lead by example strengthen his leadership ability. He has the ability to anticipate the other team’s moves and break on the ball at just the right time. He trains hard for the long jump and the ability to be explosive on the field. Going into this season, Harvey has been working on his ability to better play multiple positions.

When it comes to how coaches recruit, Harvey was clear that the coaches that stand out are the ones who actually care about the player. “You can tell when a coach actually cares about you,” said Harvey, “and not just what you are doing on the field. That’s really important to me because family is everything to me.”

Hosted by Jake Crain, the JBoy Show burst on the podcast scene in April 2020, delivering an in-depth look at Southeastern Conference (“SEC”) sports with an emphasis on the SEC West. With topics ranging from recruiting and real-life athlete experiences to a multi-episode series honoring legendary Auburn football Coach Pat Dye, the JBoy Show has already been ranked as one of the top-10 sports news shows on Apple Podcasts.
