- Ben Verlander, Michelle Margaux join JBoy to talk CFB, CBB, NFL, MLB, NBA
- Football season likely depends on success of basketball, baseball seasons
- As season starts, all eyes are on rest results
For the first time Jake Crain, host of the JBoy Show, welcomed two guests to his podcast. Millennial Sports Talk hosts Ben Verlander and Michelle Margaux joined Crains to discuss a wide range of sports topics from CFB, CBB, NFL, MLB, and the NBA.
The three kicked off the show talking about the upcoming football season — whether there would be one, it it’s worth the risk and what the season might look like.
“I think it is all going to depend on how basketball and baseball go,” said Margaux. “If they can make it work and figure out a system, there is so much money that goes into football that they will have to make it work. Whether or not fans will be there? I don’t know.”
Verlander shared that everyone he talks to is staying positive about the upcoming college football season but he is still unsure. Right now basketball and baseball teams are chartering private flights and continually testing for COVID. College football, especially if teams aren’t making money from packing the stadium, simply doesn’t have the funds to do the same, he points out.
JBoy brought up that football has not seen a detour even close to this level. The billion-dollar industry has been a smooth-running machine up until this pandemic. The three were in agreement that the recoil of not having a season at all is something that will be felt far beyond Saturdays. In fact, Verlander believe that the trickle-down effect could be felt for a decade or more.
During the podcast, the three also talked basketball and the possibility of NBA Academies popping up and grabbing high school athletes. Noting that she feels the college experitment is important to athletes, Margaux said she doesn’t like the direction and she hopes that young athletes are not groomed from a young age for the NBA but that they enjoy the opportunity to fully experience ]college competition. Verlander also worries that the pop ups would deter kids from going to college.
JBoy then moved the conversation to major league baseball and what the coming season might look like. Margaux shared a quote that’s been floating around: Whoever has the fewest guys testing positive, that’s the guys that will win the World Series. The three laughed about the quote but recognized the truth of the situation.
This week’s podcast can be found, along with all the JBoy Show podcast episodes, on Anchor, iTunes/Apple, Spotify, Google, Breaker, Overcast, PocketCasts, RadioPublic or YouTube.
Hosted by Jake Crain, the JBoy Show burst on the podcast scene in April 2020, delivering an in-depth look at Southeastern Conference (“SEC”) sports with an emphasis on the SEC West.
