From its offices in Redwood City, California, Equinix, Inc. (NASDAQ: EQIX), the world’s largest provider of data centers, earlier this week announced its partnership with Telnyx, a provider of wholesale VoIP services. Per the agreement, Telnyx will expand its high-performance VoIP platform to Europe and Asia by employing the Equinix Interconnection Oriented ArchitectureTM (IOA™).
“Providing high-quality and feature-rich VoIP solutions that scale globally requires connections to a deep ecosystem of voice and data networks. At Equinix, our goal is to provide the interconnections necessary to allow Telnyx, and all of our customers, to succeed in the digital economy. The improvements in call quality that Telnyx was able to gain are a great example of the value of moving to an Interconnection Oriented Architecture at Equinix,” Bill Long, vice president of Interconnection Solutions for Equinix, stated in the news release.
Telnyx will be able to extend its network into Europe and Asia by deploying the IOA™ and Equinix Performance Hubs™, which will is expected to improve overall network performance by more than 60 percent. Telnyx will add Performance Hub nodes in the Equinix London and Hong Kong International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data centers.
“The Equinix Interconnection Oriented Architecture strategy coupled with Telnyx’s innovative Telephony Engine has improved the performance of our service by more than 60 percent. The benefits to our customers are clear: superior call quality, advanced features, fast setup, self-control and scalable service,” said Ian Reither, co-founder and COO of Telnyx.
Telnyx’s cloud-based platform – Telephony Engine (TE) – allows managed service providers and enterprises to buy individual wholesale telecommunications services through their Mission Control portal and API. With the growth of VoIP services across North America, customers are turning increasingly to Telnyx to provide this service on a global scale. Operating TE across a global Equinix Performance Hub, Telnyx will be able to satisfy customer demands for speed by reducing average transmission latency by 16 percent and average network ‘jitter’ by 62 percent.
Equinix’s Performance Hubs extend a company’s network into Equinix IBX data centers and allows direct communication between Equinix’s data center clients over Equinix’s proprietary network. This approach improves quality of transmission and security since transmission over the open Internet is circumvented.
Telnyx has worked with Equinix to establish a five-node network connecting its three existing Performance Hub deployments in Chicago, Washington D.C., and Silicon Valley to those in London and Hong Kong. This will enable a potent combination of the distributed TE architecture with seamless access to major Tier-1 Internet service providers (ISPs) and cloud service providers (CSPs), wherever Telnyx deploys. Now customers will likely enter the network and have their call processed at the closest physical point of presence (POP) within their geographic region, ensuring a uniform high-quality experience across locations.
