NECANN Returns to Maine as Adult-Recreational Marijuana Market Gets Regulatory Green Light

There’s no better time than right now for NECANN’s fifth annual Maine Cannabis Convention to convene. September 2019 marks the opening of the state’s adult-use recreational marijuana market, and the NECANN Maine Cannabis Convention will celebrate that milestone as it gets underway. The conference is slated for October 5-6, 2019, at the Portland Sports Complex.

Maine voters initially approved statewide legalization back in 2016, but it’s taken this long to establish the regulatory framework for the industry. However, now that Governor Janet Mills has signed the legislation, the timing is perfect for the state’s largest cannabis industry event.

The convention covers a multitude of topics, kicking off by exploring legal issues in a growing workforce in a session held on Saturday, October 5. The presenters for the session include Ann M. Freeman and Tara Walker from New England law firm Bernstein Shur. Freeman is legal counsel in the Municipal & Governmental Services and Labor & Employment practice groups, while Walker, a former legal and policy director of the ACLU of Alaska, is an associate counsel.

Keynote speaker Shay Stewart-Bouley takes the stage at 1:00 p.m. Stewart-Bouley publishes an award-winning website/blog titled ‘Black Girl in Maine Media’, which examines a variety of social issues. At 2:00 p.m., Patricia Rosi of the Wellness Connection takes over. Rosi has been honored nationally as a pioneer and progressive in the cannabis industry. She recently appeared, for the third time, on the list of ‘Glass Ceiling Wreckers: 2019 Power Women of Cannabis’ put together by Cannabis Business Executive.

Other Saturday offerings include Sam Milton discussing how to ‘Enlighten Your Grow’ at 3:00 p.m. and David Rabinovitz talking about ‘Cannabis in America: The Business and Politics of Marijuana’ at 4:00 p.m. Milton is principal of Climate Resources Group, a Massachusetts-based consulting firm that focuses on climate-friendly energy solutions. Rabinovitz is a cannabis industry veteran who has been advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, deal structuring, stock plans and strategy since 2010.

Sunday’s programming will be equally thought provoking. Kate Senzamici is scheduled to discuss ‘The Evolving Cannabis Market: What you need to know today about retail, consumer and product trends’. Senzamici is eastern regional business development manager at BDS Analytics. Lauren Lamontagne will talk about ‘Going up in smoke: Missed opportunities in employee safety and what OSHA is doing about it’. Lamontagne is a certified safety professional who holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and Spanish, a juris doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law and an AAS in Occupational Safety and Health.

In addition to the stellar sessions, the fifth annual NECANN Maine Cannabis Convention will include an impressive exhibit hall where participants can learn about dozens of cannabis companies that provide an array of services within the cannabis industry. Exhibit hall hours are Saturday, October 5, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, October 6, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are available on its website (http://nnw.fm/4fAra).
