GPS Jamming Has Become the Weather Over Eastern Europe, and SPARC AI Just Launched Its Dismounted Positioning App in the Middle of It

  • Thirteen European nations and Iceland issued a joint warning in January 2026 that Russian GNSS interference puts all vessels in the Baltic at risk, and Lithuania reports Kaliningrad’s spoofing antennas grew from a handful to several dozen in a year
  • In September flight tests, Overwatch returned target coordinates computed entirely from flight telemetry while the drone’s camera was physically covered for the entire flight
  • Overwatch Patrol, unveiled at MSPO in Kielce, Poland, puts the same network on a soldier’s phone with no additional hardware, no external receiver and no antenna

For most of the satellite-navigation era, GPS interference was treated as an incident: something that happened near a specific conflict, for a specific period, and then stopped. That framing no longer describes the operating environment. Across the Baltic, Eastern Europe, the Black Sea and the Persian Gulf, jamming and spoofing now run continuously, affecting airliners, cargo ships, drones, artillery and the phones in soldiers’ pockets. Planners stopped asking when the signal will come back and started asking what they will use instead. SPARC AI Inc. (CSE: SPAI) (OTCQB: SPAIF) has built its answer as a network rather than a device, and in the past month it has taken that network from drones to dismounted troops, in the one region of Europe where the problem is worse.

The Map Over Europe Is Red Most Days

The evidence has moved from anecdote to pattern. On January 26, 2026, the 13 coastal states of the Baltic and North Seas, joined by Iceland, sent an open letter to the international maritime community stating that GNSS interference originating from the Russian Federation is degrading the safety of international shipping and that all vessels are at risk. The International Air Transport Association’s 2025 Annual Safety Report recorded spoofing incidents up 193% and jamming events up 67% between 2023 and 2025, and its director general called the practices unacceptable and irresponsible.

Poland sits at the center of it. Lithuania reported that spoofing infrastructure in Kaliningrad expanded from a few antennas at the start of 2025 to several dozen, and Polish researchers say a significant share of the country’s airspace at cruising altitude now falls inside their range. On August 21, the Polish minehunter ORP Albatros was jammed during operations in the Baltic. Sweden’s Transport Agency says the clearest change in 2026 is that spoofing has become more systematic and geographically widespread since the end of May. Interference is no longer an event to be reported. It is a standing condition to be planned around.

Telemetry Only, Camera Optional

SPARC AI’s Overwatch Positioning Network takes the telemetry a drone already produces, sends it to the company’s servers, and returns latitude, longitude and time in roughly a third of a second. Nothing is installed on the aircraft. The output is indistinguishable to an autopilot from a conventional GPS fix.

On September 1, the company reported a series of flight tests designed to prove the solution does not secretly depend on the camera. With the lens physically covered for the duration of each flight, the aircraft flew a structured pattern, and the Overwatch API returned target coordinates computed entirely from flight telemetry. The positioning calculation uses no image recognition and no pre-loaded reference imagery. That distinction matters in practice: many vision-based alternatives for GPS-denied positioning match camera imagery against stored maps, an approach that struggles at night, in fog, over water, or across terrain with no distinguishing features. A telemetry-only solve is built so visibility never enters the calculation. What the release did not include is an error radius, which leaves field precision as the next thing the company needs to publish.

From the Aircraft to the Soldier

On September 10, SPARC AI unveiled Overwatch Patrol at MSPO in Kielce, Poland, one of Europe’s largest defense exhibitions and a focal point for NATO procurement, after demonstrating the application in Kraków ahead of the show. Patrol is a dismounted positioning application that delivers continuous location to soldiers and security personnel where GPS is jammed, spoofed, degraded or absent. It requires no additional hardware, no external receiver and no antenna. It runs on the Overwatch Positioning Network and reaches any mobile device either as a native app or through a standard web browser, where there is nothing to install at all.

Two features address the first things a patrol loses when satellite positioning is denied. Team members share live positions, so every member sees the others move on the map in real time with no GPS; teams form on the ground using a dynamic code from the group’s commander, with no central administrator or pre-configured devices. Any member can also drop a rally point that is shared instantly, so a commander can designate a new linkup point after contact or during a casualty evacuation and separated members can converge on it even when out of visual contact or beyond radio range. At MSPO, management held meetings with tactical radio network providers on extending shared position data across existing communications infrastructure.

Where the Validation Happens

The network went live on August 25, and Ukrainian drone manufacturers with existing SPARC AI engagements have been invited to access it as the company’s primary delivery model. Ukraine produces drones by the millions inside the most contested electronic environment on earth, which makes it the proving ground for whether a network-delivered position source holds up at operational volume. Performance data from that deployment is the next thing to watch.

The larger point is timing. In the span of three weeks, SPARC AI launched its positioning network, reported a flight test flown with the camera covered, and unveiled a dismounted application in Poland, the country now living under the densest interference in Europe. The sequence puts the company’s approach in front of the operators who have already accepted GPS denial as permanent. What comes next is the measure that matters: how the network performs as those operators start using it on a scale.
