FRONTEO (FTEO) Granted Patent for Technology that Predicts Patient Falls in Healthcare Facilities

Recently, FRONTEO, Inc. (NASDAQ: FTEO) and FRONTEO, Inc. Healthcare (“FRONTEO Healthcare”) announced the reception of a patent approval from the Japan Patent Office for their AI-based technology (http://nnw.fm/ey2Xq). This new technology will be used in healthcare facilities in order to better predict patient falls. The AI-based technology analyzes the unstructured textual data from electronic medical and examination records to detect signs that a patient is going to fall. FRONTEO, Inc. is a leading technology and services company providing international litigation support and big-data services, among others. FRONTEO Healthcare is a FRONTEO subsidiary that analyses medical data and records to then provide analysis solutions. The companies have already taken the required steps toward patent registration.

A joint research project was put together with a partner hospital. The research showed that the new technology could improve fall prediction accuracy by 30 to 40%, as compared to conventional methods. With these results in mind, both FRONTEO and FRONTEO Healthcare believe that this new technology could minimize workloads for both doctors and nurses. Thanks to this AI-based technology, medical staff will be able to focus more time on other jobs rather than dealing with patient falls.

The prototype of the technology, named the ‘Patient Fall Prediction System’, was showcased during the International Modern Hospital Show 2016, in early July. The system is supported by AI-based technology and powered by the AI-based engine: “KIBIT”, another FRONTEO product. The patent for this tech was filed for on November 27, 2015, and it is currently pending.

FRONTEO chairman and chief executive officer Masahiro Morimoto made a statement noting that the company believes this patent is a testament to the superior innovation that underlies the highly accurate document analytics provided by FRONTEO. He later continued his statement: “In this advanced digital age, when the processing of vast volumes of data is necessary, our data analytics solutions are expanding into increasingly important business fields, such as healthcare, business intelligence and marketing. By further honing our AI-based technologies and extending our portfolio of intellectual properties, FRONTEO will continue to provide highly sophisticated services and deliver a better future to people worldwide.”
