Amazon Vehicles (AMZN), an Automotive Community Platform with Research Capability, Makes Debut

From its corporate office in Seattle, Washington, Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) last week announced its launch of Amazon Vehicles, which offers information on vehicles, parts, and accessories and allows buyers and sellers to communicate, as an extension of the Amazon Automotive store. Amazon Vehicles’ huge database will give car buyers access to specifications, images, videos and customer reviews for thousands of new and classic car models on Amazon.com – vehicles ranging from the latest 2016 Jeep Wrangler, the best-selling 2014 Tesla Model S and 2000 Chevrolet Corvette, to the 1965 Ford Mustang and hundreds of other models.

Announcing the launch of Amazon Vehicles, director of Automotive at Amazon Adam Goetsch, said:

“Our goal is to support customers during one of the most important, research-intensive purchases in their lives by helping them make informed decisions every step of the way. Amazon Vehicles is a great resource for customers who are interested in car information or looking for a broad selection of parts and accessories – all enhanced by the ability to tap into the knowledge, opinions, and experiences of other car owners within the Amazon customer community.”

Reports put the number of vehicles already listed on the new vehicle research database at over 5,000. Users can search the car database by body style, make, model, year, fuel economy, transmission type, color and other parameters. The manufacturers’ suggested retail prices are included as well.

The company already offers Amazon Garage as part of its Amazon Automotive store. By “parking” a car in the Amazon Garage, information on parts and accessories appropriate to that particular model is channeled to the user. So far, more than 35 million customers have saved their cars to the Amazon Garage.

Currently, Amazon Vehicles does not offer the cars it displays for sale. The platform offers only information on car specifications to aid the purchasing decision along with owners’ reviews. As well as offering comments, users can upload images and video to the site. However, it seems very likely that Amazon is considering adding motor vehicles to the vast array of products it already offers.
