PowerTap is currently working to complete its newest design of a patented onsite hydrogen production and dispensing technology designed for use in the North American hydrogen-vehicle market. This third-generation version includes significant advantages over earlier PowerTap units as well as other hydrogen-fueling technologies available in the space. For instance, the station can go live in mere weeks and can be fully assembled and tested prior to delivery, bypassing the need for city planning processes. The modular design provides for Underwriters Laboratories UL approval, reducing the number of onsite inspections needed. In addition, the technology provides for mass production of stations as well as future upgrades in capacity and storage, key elements as demand for these stations increases. The design for the station is less than half the size of the closest competitor, making it easy to relocate if necessary.
